Arun Hospital had a humble beginning on October 26, 1994, with 2 beds. It has grown over the years into a 25-bed hospital in a new building on January 25, 2006. The second unit was opened on July 26, 2017, with 25 beds and an emergency and high-class intensive care facility. Today Arun Hospital Unit-I is a premier hospital for women’s Health care and Unit-II is a Modern Multiple-Specialty Hospital and a center of excellence for diabetes care and diabetes reversal. Both units have a combined strength of 50 beds, offering the latest technology and expertise at an affordable cost. Dr. S. M. Kannan MD & Dr. S. Dr.S. Bala Abirami is one of the Medical Directors of Arun Hospital Madurai. She did her MBBS at Madurai Medical College from 1980-86 and came out as the best outgoing student of her batch.

She has 35 years of experience in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. She has honed her obstetric and surgical skills under the guidance of legendary Dr.Kousalya Devi of Gandhigramam Kasthuriba Hospital.

The stronghold she has in her field has drawn in patients not only from in and around the vicinity but from nearly towns and villages as well.

She is liked by her patients because of her confidence in her field and her professional approach to them.

Dr.S.M. Kannan is the medical director of Arun Hospital, Madurai. He pursued his MBBS at Madurai Medical College in the year 1979-86. He did his MD (General Medicine) at Madurai Medical College.

He traveled to the UK Several times to update his knowledge and to get hands-on training in managing Diabetes and its complications.

He has 35 years of experience and has in-depth knowledge in his specialization and countless locals in Munichalai Road have placed immense trust in him over the years.

He has several patients from many nearby towns and villages. Keeping the patient’s interest first and updating his knowledge every day, is the secret behind his successful practice.

Dr. Arun (MBBS, MD [General Medicine], DrNB [Cardiology]), he completed his MBBS at Coimbatore Government Medical College and pursued his Masters in General Medicine at Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai.

Following his passion for cardiology, he undertook a superspeciality course in cardiology at Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre, Madurai, which helped him earn a Doctorate from the National Board of Examination, India (DrNB) in Cardiology.

Dr. Arun is well trained in interventional procedures such as coronary angiogram, coronary angioplasties, pacemaker insertion, heart failure management, transcatheter therapies, and more.
